What is an SSL certificate?
My hosting already says it includes free SSL, why would I pay for one?
The free SSL (AutoSSL) included with your hosting is Domain Validation, without showing your company name. If you need Organization or Extended Validation, coverage for multiple domains on one certificate, or a Wildcard, that's when you buy one of these.
How long does it take to be issued?
Domain Validation (DV) certificates are issued within minutes. Organization Validation (OV) takes up to 2 days, and Extended Validation (EV) up to 10 days, because they require verifying your business.
What is a Wildcard certificate?
It protects your domain and all its subdomains (mail.yourdomain.com, shop.yourdomain.com, etc.) with a single certificate, instead of buying one for each subdomain.
Why is the 5-year plan cheaper than the 3- or 4-year plan?
It's a promotion from our provider for a longer-term commitment — the price per year drops more the more years you pay upfront, and the biggest jump happens right at the 5-year plan.
